OK, it's down to the wire! We have the finalized schedule up, and we're ready to get going THIS FRIDAY in Auburn! It's been tons of work, but it's paid off - with regional press coverage, about 400-600 people expected to attend, and nearly 10,000 website visits between the two sites, this is going to be by far the biggest and best recognized Southern Girls' Convention yet. It's going to be unbelievably rad, and we hope that we can use this momentum to carry SGC into a permanent, transformative presence in the South for years to come. Thank you to everyone who has made this convention a reality, whether you are a participant, a sponsor, a workshop facilitator, or just someone who forwarded the e-mail along. This weekend will be a hands-on example of what individual people of conscience can do when we pool our resources collectively and network together for our common goals. Every one of you rocks!

The schedule page has been updated (and made to look a little nicer). It's still tentative, but this is closer to the way things will actually end up being scheduled. We think.

We've crosslinked with the excellent people at North Carolina Pride, who will be holding their annual NC Pridefest on September 29, 2001 in Durham and Raleigh, NC. Check it out, especially if you're in North Carolina!

What is Southern Girls' Convention? The Southern Girls' Convention is a meeting of student-age (and all other ages!) activists devoted to building pro-woman community in the South, and providing education and empowerment for grassroots feminist activism. The Convention will invite women and pro-woman activists from across the country to meet in Auburn, Alabama (in the Heart of Dixie) to discuss issues of women's empowerment, Southern culture, views of the South, and tactics for personal/political change. The Convention will be focused around discussions in workshops and caucuses. Other events will include a Southern women's art show, musical entertainment, and tables for organizations to network and raise awareness on issues related to feminism, progressive politics, and the South. Workshops are organized by participants at the conference. As in years past, we hope workshops will explore various radical issues and skill-sharing. This year we would also like to start a critical discussion on how we organize in our communities and develop strategies that are both empowering and accessible to all women. Though this convention has a Southern theme, we want to include workshops that affect all women and we invite people from all over the country to attend. Great! What can I do now?
SponsorsThe third annual Southern Girls' Convention would not have been possible without the support of many great organizations and publications. We would like to extend our thanks to:
