The organizers are seeking out support from our University, as well as regional and national feminist groups, to help make SGC2001 a reality, but we still need as much help as you can offer to make it a collective women's event and the smashing success we know it will be! We especially need two things: contributions and publicity.
Although we've got most of the basics covered, we still need a lot of stuff to put this shindig on and get all the details - housing, childcare, food, etc. on track. If you or your organization has any of the items on this Wish List that you can contribute, we'd be eternally grateful, and we will be glad to list your organization or business as a Mightily Esteemed Sponsor in the materials we pass out to everyone at the Convention. We can now accept online monetary contributions by Visa, MasterCard, or checking account. Otherwise, contributions can be sent to:
Southern Girls' ConventionIf you are in the Auburn area and want to save the postage, please contact us and we can pick it up from you.
P.O. Box 2956
Auburn, AL 36830
Any unused money or postage left over after the convention will be donated to Auburn Women's Organization and Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Unused food will be donated to the Auburn Food Bank. Any other unused items can be returned to their senders or donated to local women's groups - send us a note with the item if you want it returned!
If you are in the Auburn area: We are currently looking for someone to provide safe, reliable childcare near Auburn University campus for any women who need childcare while at the convention. If you or your organization can help us with this, we will be eternally in your debt.
If you are in the Auburn area: We need safe, easy-to-reach housing for people coming from out of town. If you or your organization can provide housing space (we mostly just need floor space and bathrooms - a room of your house, floor space in your meeting building, whatever) near Auburn University campus, it will help us out A LOT! We especially need the space for the nights of Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, but we would also like a few to be available for Sunday, July 22, in case some people live too far out of town to start driving right after the conference.
Postage stamps for our mailings
Non-perishable, simple food items (particularly bags of pasta, spices, etc.) that we can use in the kitchen
If you can buy or donate money for ad space in your local newspaper or a magazine, we will soon have ad copies that you can place. Please contact us so that we can make arrangements and let you know when the ad copy is ready.
Multicolored paper (mainly 8.5x11 printing paper) for fliers, fold-up brochures, etc.
We welcome any and all monetary contributions above and beyond the recommended registration contribution (please pay online or send well-concealed cash or check made out to "Auburn Women's Organization")
We encourage supportive individuals and groups to contribute. You can make a general contribution at whatever level you can through the mail or through PayPal.
If you or your organization needs specific items to contribute for budgetary purposes, we currently still need to cover the following items on our budget:
| Travel expenses for picking up and dropping off convention participants | US$80 | |
| Housing for Convention participants | US$500 | |
| Food/Refreshments | US$500 | |
| Reimburse organizer for P.O. Box paid out-of-pocket | US$30 | |
| Reimburse organizer for Business Cards paid out-of-pocket | US$20 | |
| Advertising and copies of fliers, pamphlets, etc. | about US$450 | |
| Use of location at Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (also serves as housing for out-of-town participants) | US$150 | |
| Use of location at Foy Union Exhibition Room | US$180 | |
| Use of location at Foy Union conference rooms | US$370 |
This is only a partial list; if you have any ideas for ways that you could contribute which we haven't listed here, contact us and tell us all about it!
