The workshop will begin with centering exercises to bring students into their bodies through yoga, movement, and voice expression, then continue with spontaneous writing exercises and reading out loud, writing in-class on given topics, reading work in progress and shaping it into a piece for public performance at the end of the class.

Artists from other disciplines are strongly encouraged to join us, and are welcome to explore the subject matter via their chosen creative expression. Physically challenged women are encouraged to participate also, relating to the body through the exploration of creativity and sexuality.

We will be reading from, among other possible texts, the Gynomite anthology, Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, Susie Bright’s Full Exposure, Annie Sprinkle’s Post Porn Modernist, Nancy Friday’s collections of female fantasy, and bell hooks. Students are encouraged to bring in their favorite pornographic writings by women, and favorite porn from all other realms and forms.

I dream to single handedly consolidate all the information for a certain organization into one website. Committee info, links to important sites, upcoming events, pictures, message board, wiki page - you-name-it and it's there!! It was easy too. With that in mind the second part of our workshop (since the first will take five minutes) will center around basics of what we did (which was pretty much build a really cool website from html scratch, a very DIY approach) - how to learn html, submitting the site to search engines, spreading the word, hosting the site - all of that laced with some more in depth suggestions about programs, flash, sound files, cgi/java. *Disclaimer* We only know what we've taught ourselves, so if you know a lot about any of the above, please come and transfer your knowledge! This workshop will be led by two extremely motivtated web-amateur feminists who are teaching themselves everything they can about the web. Also, there will be html cheat sheets for all.

"Lilith's Inviolable Purity"

Workshop Type: LECTURE/DISCUSSION
Facilitator(s): ken gunther / Shaelyn Chaminade - jupiter, fl OR section, al
Contact Info: lilithmcgrae@earthlink.net
Description: "Lilith's Inviolable Purity" empirically establishes just how females come to be innately pure beings, and ---once realized at satisfying depth--- why it is impossible not to celebrate this liberating discovery for a lifetime! Along the way it addresses such as: Where does the icon Female Purity come from? And why should we not bash it to bits but reclaim it as our most intimate possession? (and) Why bashing the icon of Female Purity and swearing by such mantras as "immaculate slutdom" are akin to throwing the (female) baby out the window with the (patriarchal) bathwater. (and) Why are so many women still male coopted? Has the feminist movement possibly failed to isolate the most deeply traumatic abuse of all? (and) Who was first to kidnap Mother Nature's most stunning daughters, the prehistoric nymphs, and turn them into so many insecure sex objects? (Clue: Not religion. It was second.) (and) Who was first to abduct Mother Nature's daughter, Morality (same clue) and then set about seeing to her systematic debauching? (and) "What has a bit of thin membrane in my body to do with who I reallyreally am? And who wanted us females hymenally challenged anyway?" And summarily: L.I.P. examines that "place" where all the talk about being "a natural woman" finds its soul, celebrates what it has found, and departs the scene to formulate a new female bill of rights, a bill suddenly free of anger and hostility simply because it is full-to-overflowing with a new understanding of where all the angst and pain of just being female came from to begin with............ Understanding is the best path to personal freedom.

Racism and Heterosexism: Making Connections

Workshop Type: Group discussion
Facilitator(s): Jason Mallory, Fort Worth, TX
Contact Info: spinoza20@aol.com
Description: In general, I would like to discuss three topics: (1) how racism and heterosexism, both in theory and practice, share links with each other; (2) how racism and heterosexism can both be challenged with reliable information, sound moral argumentation and institutional reform; and (3) how one can inform one's antiracist activism with an awareness of the unearned social, economic and political advantages of identifying as or being perceived as heterosexual. Specifically, I would like to discuss how the normalization of whiteness and (privileged) white culture is similar in kind to normative heterosexuality. My workshop is motivated by the ecofeminist insight that various forms of oppression are often interlocking and mutually reinforcing.

I hope this workshop will provide a vital space for participants to engage in honest reflection, within a supportive, understanding environment, on the many ways in which the dominant U.S. culture continues to subjugate people of color and those who identify as or are perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered. And, what is equally important, I hope this workshop serves as an opportunity to recognize the intersectionality of political identities (such as those concerning race, class, religion, gender, nationality, ability, sexuality, age) and how one can--while refusing to deny one's own participation in privileged identities--forge ideological and practical coalitions among all groups working on behalf of marginalized peoples.

Radical, Southern, and All Fired Up- Where Do We Go From Here?

Workshop Type: Group discussion
Facilitator(s): Robin, Memphis, TN
Contact Info: suzukibeane@hotmail.com
Description: In this workshop we will discuss the barriers facing activists from the South; we will talk about the problematic notion that Southerners are lazy and can't be activists without outside help, as well as discussing unpopular elements of our culture like pace and ideology; we will deconstruct the notion of "Southern Pride" so that we can come up with our own definition that encompasses all Southern people; we will create a networking/project list so that we can do the work that so desperately needs to be done here in the dirty dirty South. Everyone from everywhere is encouraged to attend, but it's imperative that Southerners be especially vocal and creative in this workshop! This will be very a discussion-oriented space and while I have ideas about topics of discussion, it can really go in lots of different directions. Hope to see you there; bring lots of ideas to the table!

Even though my workshop isn't gender-segregated, I want to make it clear that it's pro-trans, trans-welcoming, trans-lovin'!

Bertha's aim is to generate interest for all kinds of wacky, freaky, queer, tough, political, fairy, strong, nerdy, skilled, etc. women and trannies to create more of a women and tranny focus among the (now boy dominated) radical fairy based communities in middle Tennessee. The focus of the workshop should span beyond The Bertha project but will talk about some of our ideas and goals as well. I'd like us to discuss some reasons behind creating a network of land based communities, diffuculties and realities, some of the actual experiences of living in rural intentional communities, and any dreams and ideas people may have, both practical and fantastic. I would like the workshop to be a discussion and networking space, not so much a presentation. I am open to co-facilitating with others interested in doing a workshop on the same topic.

What makes a prisoner political?

Workshop Type: Group Discussion
Facilitator(s): Liz Green, Birmigham, AL
Contact Info: elgreen@vassar.edu
Description: Most progressive people agree that prisoners in jail for their ideas should be released. But what distinguishes a political prisoner from other inmates? Can we look at petty crimes as Marx did, as the lumpen proletariat's unconcious resistance to capitalism? Is the destruction of property a violent act? I want to discuss the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal in particular, as well as the MOVE 9, and Leonard Peltier. I want to challenge notions of what makes a political prisoner by examining the politics of the prison-industrial complex.

This discussion-based workshop will challenge the distinction between political prisoners and other victims of this criminal injustice system. I do want to look at the cases of Mumia Abu-Jamal and Leonard Peltier as galvanizing points for a movement that seeks to bring justice out of the prison-industrial complex.
