Sixth Annual Southern Girls Convention Memphis, Tennessee: August 12-14, 2004

The Sixth Annual Southern Girls Convention will be held in the city where SGC originated: in Memphis, Tennessee. It will take place Thursday, August 12th through Saturday, August 14th, in space provided for social justice organizing by the First Congregational Church. Women's Action Coalition, a radical feminist group in Memphis that sponsored the first ever Southern Girls Convention, is organizing this year's convention, with help from other organizers from the past five years of SGCs.

We have a tentative schedule of events available online, and some preliminary information on getting to the convention. More information on housing, transportation, events, workshops, entertainment, food, and everything else will be available soon. Also, very soon, we will have online applications for workshops and tabling (for organizations, distros, booksellers, and more). Keep an eye out!

If you plan to come to the convention, you should register to attend as soon as possible. Your registration and $20 (sliding-scale) registration fee will assure you a place at the convention--including arrangements (if you need them) for housing in Memphis and free meals. (It also helps us get an idea of how many people are coming and make sure that we have enough food and sleeping space for everyone!)

All workshops are proposed and run by the participants themselves—that means you! If there is an issue you'd like to discuss, information you'd like to share, a campaign you'd like to organize… sign up to run a workshop. As in years past, we hope that SGC will provide a space to share skills, meet others working on the issues we care about, explore various issues affecting the South, and strategize on how to organize and make positive changes in our communities. Please, feel free to bring video projects, zines, writing, and anything you are interested in sharing to the convention. We look forward to seeing you there!
