Workshop description
We will use our backgrounds in activism, medicine (pediatrics and obgyn), and psychotherapy to discuss barriers to long term breastfeeding and to natural birth. We will discuss the medicalization of childbirth and the undermining of breastfeeding by the for-profit, corporate health care system in the US. We will discuss the role of sexuality and gender identification in breastfeeding and birthing. We will examine “cultural” norms concerning nudity and body image as well.
