Stop State Repression Against Women: San Salvador Atenco Still Resists

Workshop description

On May 3rd a group of flower vendors were brutally dislodged by municipal and state police under the direction of a mayor who sees them as a nuisance and would rather a Wal-mart in their place. Roadblocks, detentions and gun battles leave a 14 year-old youth dead. On May 4th over 3,000 police carry out door-to-door searches, detentions, beatings and rapes. As stories of the sexual abuse of women pile up, Subcomandante Marcos stated, "today we are convened by rage and indignation that is provoked by the knowledge that for those above, women are the spoils of war promised beforehand to the troops of order. The aggression that was and is inflicted on our compaňeras for the sole reason of being women, the need to not only beat and detain them, but to also humiliate and destroy them morally, the message is not only to them as women who fight for a better country, for another Mexico, it is for all women of Mexico. And a message to all women who resist, but we, instead, respond with rage, indignation and determination to support our jailed sisters. Help demand justice for the people of Atenco.
