Workshop description
Do you know that 85 per cent of U.S. executions take place in former confederate states? How can we stop this?
Since Southern states carry out executions far more often than the other states, we all need to understand this legacy of slavery and lynchings. Challenging prisons and the death penalty is part and parcel of the fight for the liberation of all people, particularly people of color and working class people. The majority of those locked up and those facing executions are men. But who is affected most by this? We are. Women are their mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and friends.
In this workshop you will learn the history of the death penalty, why it became such an integral part of life in the South, and how we can struggle against it and abolish it forever.
If you want to understand our history, if you don't mind stepping on a few toes, if you are up for challenging the system, then this workshop is for you.
